What role does power play in government, economy, and politics?

Power plays a huge role in government, economy, and politics, but we as citizens play a huge role in who we give the power to. In our culture today, money talks and status speaks. It seems that our politicians have lost their true purpose, integrity, and the beliefs of our founding fathers founded our country on. The economy has suffered with misuse of power with the bail outs, job loss, the mortgage disaster, war, etc. In the past 10 years we have seen the ups and downs and we as a Nation still cant seem to figure it out.
Fact: Bush warned Pelosi and Reid about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and they wouldn't do a federal investigation, then the market plunged. Now unemployment is almost at 10%, yet at one point during Bush's watch it was as low as 5.4%.

  1. Critical Review for Beth Martinez: http://bethpsc1010.blogspot.com/

Beth’s blog definitely has a political feel. It opens with a nice graphic that seems to really stand out thanks to the black background. Throughout the blog, Beth uses patriotic colors and doesn’t distract from the topic of our class, politics. From each posting, I don’t get the idea that Beth is trying to convince her readers to go one way or another with their views. She seems to focus on the problem at hand or question being asked for the assignment, allowing the reader to make decisions based on the title of each blog post. However, while I do not feel she is going entirely Republican or Democratic, she certainly expresses each post from a personal opinion.
When Beth writes in her blog, it seems like she is writing from her heart. She is genuinely concerned by each topic given and focuses on a particular subject she finds to be relevant. I enjoy reading her blog because it doesn’t portray any type of egocentric setting. It seems as though she writes of confusion within herself, but strength that she hopes others will feel. It’s almost like she is optimistic in her writings and hopes that with enough words said, things can change for the better.
As far as improvements go, I did feel she could have added a reference to what seemed like a fact published in the post pertaining to “What role does politics play in government, economy and politics?” It is actually stated as a “Fact”, but I didn’t really see where she got that information from. I did appreciate the unemployment research, but again I wasn’t entirely sure where she got her information. Another, I almost have a hard time with the continuous highlight over every post, but I see where she is going with it. It could be my eyesight, but perhaps she could change it up with each post. Just a suggestion, but it works either way.
Overall, Beth’s blog is a favorite. She has the look it needs to express that we are writing political blogs and doesn’t overdo it with side gestures or icons that distract from the focus of what we are writing about. She writes from her heart and does so in a way that doesn’t make you feel angry or give you a need to want to write back with a very opinionated statement. You can enjoy her views of each post and still get a general idea of each week’s topic.
